IWR6843: AoP (int. antenna) - chip vs cover placement

Team,

a few questions about IWR6843 AoP version (integrated antenna):

  • How deep in the chip is the antenna located (in order to find proper distance for cover placement)? Is there any material interface (through which waves are passing) on the top of the chip that should be taken in account?
  • Is it possible to place cover directly in contact with the chip front? Or should there be at least half wavelength gap?
  • Is it possible to use “lens” to focus radar beam e.g. in elevation and get thus similar antenna pattern and range as ISK has?

Thanks for your help.

  • Hello,

       1) Antenna is located on the Top side of the Package itself. There is no material interface, Antennas are located on the top surface of the package. Hence for the distance measurement  you could consider top side of the package.

     2) It's recommended to keep at-least multiple of half wavelength distance.  Please refer to below appnote section 5.

    3) Yes, Lens could be used alter the beam pattern, However currently, TI doesn't have any recommendation on this, customer have to try themselves.

    Thanks and regards,
