Hi,

I'm developing a pedestrian detection system with FMCW radars for a range of 20 m. therefore I'm interested in those products: AWR1843, AWR1243, AWR1443, AWR1642.

Do I need a special license to use those radars (77GHZ) outdoor?

what are the specifications of those radars? I'm interested in frame rate, min and max distance, range accuracy and resolution, angle accuracy and resolution, velocity resolution. Is a 3 TX antenna has better angular resolution than a 2 TX antennas?

And for accessing and processing in real-time the raw data, is the BOOST evaluation module sufficient or do I also need the MMWAVE-DEVPACK or the DCA1000EVM.

In order to start your evaluation and process in real time data you would need an AWR1843BOOST EVM. You will not need a DEVPACK or DCA1000.

We have many resources freely available for this board:

DCA1000 would be needed if you want to capture raw data and develop offline algorithms in a high level language such as mathlab or python.

TI evaluation EVMs are designed to be used in a research and development environment. You would have to contact local authorities about license.

Unfortunately, I couldn't figure out, from the links you sent me what are the specs and differences between the AWR* radars. have they been tested in general case or just for defined applications?

For the license, Is it necessary for any 77ghz radars or just AWR* radars?

In the obstacle detection lab, you spoke about heatmaps. Is it possible from that to estimate the size of the detected objects? with that, I mean if we can differentiate between a pedestrian and a vehicle for example?

Dimension of the AWR1843 EVM is ~ 65x80mm

The license is usually requred for any device that uses specific frequency range.

It is possible to use radar signals to differentiate between different types of objects. This is called classification.

Customers usually develop custom classification algorithms.

I've been in contact with the german Bundesnetzagentur and they mentioned that there's no need for a special license if the radar works under the specifications presented in this document:

Hi,

The radar sensor frame can be triggered using a hw trigger signal.

I assume that the camera could also have some hw trigger for the frame.

I am not aware of a ready to use solution

Actually, I'm interested in estimating the transformation matrix between the camera/vehicle coordinate system and the radar coordinate system. Is there a ready to use solution to estimate the radar ego-position for example?

There is no ready solution that I am aware of.

In some of our demos we have used VectorNav for radar GPS information
