IWR6843: Our IWR6843 was working fine, but suddenly we can no longer communicate with it

Part Number: IWR6843
Other Parts Discussed in Thread: UNIFLASH, MMWAVEICBOOST,

Dear TI community,

We have had the IWR6843 board and carrier for 3 months. Until recently, we have had only a few minor issues working with the hardware.

Our particular IWR6843 board and carrier originally operated in our Windows OS environment as such:

  • To flash a chosen binary: short SOP2, power cycle, DS2 (top right of carrier board) is off, The SW2 (RESET button) must be pressed and the DS2 light turns on (per the documentation this means GPIO_2 state is now set to logic 1). note: This necessary procedure to flash the device never made sense to us.
  • To run application: open SOP2, power cycle, DS2 is off, when the applications begins talking to the firmware the DS2 light comes on.

The above operating procedures worked fine for 2 months of use, but now this has changed. Now when we power cycle the IWR6843 the DS2 comes on without the SW2 (RESET button) being pushed. We are no longer able to flash the board or even communicate with it at all. UniFlash will not connect, and applications fail without connecting. The ports still show up in the Windows Device Manager with the same COM numbers when the board is powered on.

We have tried several 5v power supplies ranging from 3.0 to 4.5 amps and got the same results.

We believe that there is a hardware malfunction, but we are not sure. DS3 ("NERR", bottom left of carrier board) is on when the board is power cycled (per the documentation, "Glows if there is any HW error in the xWR device").

Thank you.
