CCS/AWR1843BOOST: The detectable range of the radar with 3tx and 4Rx

Hi,

For the real test,my configuration is shown belows:

The numbers of Tx and Rx Antenna are 3 and 4. The maximum range is configured as 130m.The CFAR threshold in the range and doppler direction are both 12 dB. In practical testing, the maximum detectble range is about 100m. Is there any configuration that is wrong?

I have another question, what are the differences between using 3tx antenna and 2tx antenna? Such as in performance, maximum detectable range etc.

Hi,

Please study the MRR demo provided in the automotive toolbox on the TI Resource Explorer.

With the MRR demo you should be able to achieve 120-140m detection for a car.

2Tx vs 3Tx

With an additional Tx there is more transmission power and a longer range detected.

Hi Cesar,

You means that if I use 3tx and 4 rx antenna,the range should be longer.But my real testing is not consistant with that.What is the reasons for that? Can you provide me some suggestion?

The reason is that you are using MIMO mode instead of beamforming

As I mentioned before, please use MRR demo as example for using beamgorming.

Hi Cesar，

I have download the MRR demo,two subframes are used, MRR and USRR.You said the demo uses beamforming mode,where does it show up? Can you provide any sugesstions for that?

I have another problem，What is the difference of the beamforming and MIMO modes? Is there any document that I can refer to？

Beamforming is the action of steering the radar beam.

In the current release of the MRR demo, beamforming is performed only at bore sight. (0 deg)

Please search on the internet for "beamforming". There are many resources.
