AWR1642BOOST: CFAR Window & Guard Length

Part Number: AWR1642BOOST
Other Parts Discussed in Thread: AWR1642

Do you recommend that the CFAR Window and Guard length is fixed for all configurations of the AWR1642, or do you think that the window and guard length should increase if there are a higher number of samples in a configuration? For example, should the range CFAR window length of 8 and guard length of 4 for a test with 256 ADC samples per chirp be the same as in a test with 1024 ADC samples per chirp?

  • Hi Samuel,

The guard and window length parameters are selected after simulations of the different variants of the CFAR detector (on real data). I would suggest that you start by collecting ADC data, processing it in matlab, and then applying CFAR-CA detectors with different guard and window lengths.

There are no good theoretical guides for selecting these parameters as they are dependant on clutter statistics, and target characteristics.
