OPT3002: multiple devices

Hi Team,

One of our customer is planning to use 60-80nos of OPT3002 in vending machine for occupancy sensing and have below queries,

1) What is the max no of device communicate through i2c?

2) Is it possible to communicate to 60-80nos in the a system?

3) Datasheet is mentioned only with 4 address, what is the other way to communicate if the system is having higher no of devices.

Please help with your comments and inputs.

Hi Shinu,

To your question of using many OPT3002, you are correct that there are only 4 addresses available and this would limit the number of devices per bus.

1) 4

2) you would need multiple i2c buses or an i2c multiplexer. Please see here for some multiplexer options http://www.ti.com/interface/i2c/switches-and-multiplexers/products.html if you chose an 8-channel multiplexer this would allow 32 OP3002s. With 2 8-channels you can get to 64.
