I have a doubt the angle estimate ,accuracy and probability of detection is depends on SNR of the signal so when we look into pulsed radars to improve the probability of detection and SNR we do pulse integration .......... Similarly can't we perform pulse integration in this FMCW radar ? AWR1642, AWR1243 .....we have N number of chirp so we can perform integration .......please guide me through !

By performing this kind of integration either it will results to constructive or destructive ?

This kind of topic or concept is not discussed in the training videos of TI also so I request you to clarify my doubt

Naveen,

I think the fundamental understanding you are missing is that the AWR1243, AWR1642, etc. devices are FMCW radars (frequency modulated continuous waveforms). They are not pulsed radars and therefore pulse integration does not apply in your analysis.

For FMCW radars, you can increase SNR by increasing the chirp duration and/or increasing the number of chirps in each frame.

We perform FFTs on the radar data to arrive at range, velocity, and angle information.

The mmwave sensor devices have been designed to be used as shown in the mmwave training.

Could you please provide more details on what you are trying to achieve?

It is definitely possible to average all the chirps to increase the SNR

I think you did not understood my point .....

I am not telling that i can increase SNR by increasing the chirp duration and/or increasing the number of chirps in each frame but i am seeing that i have N number of chirps where in each chirp the target information is present with low signal strength so by adding the N chirp signals i can improve the SNR of the signal ? ............

If i have 128 chirps or 65 or N does't matter but by adding ,signal SNR get improved and probability of detection get better !

Yes,

If the noise is random you will increase the SNR

Hi Cesar ,

Previously i told my problem in detecting human more than 40 m ............ for more details please see the below link

The signal strength is poor for detecting the human at 50 m and i thought of doing integration in between the chirp so that i signal SNR get better for detection !

I dont even know what technique will helps to improve SNR of the Signal in FMCW radar so i was asking you for better guidance...................

I would suggest taking a look at one of the example labs online here: http://dev.ti.com/tirex/explore/node?node=AJymZUkImsF4knF6x3AKNg__VLyFKFf__LATEST

This is a long range people detection lab for distances up to 50 meters.

Essentially, you need to leverage both beam forming and beam steering in your implementation to achieve higher power levels at longer distances that will allow you achieve the SNR you are looking for.
