AWR1642BOOST: DCA1000EVM

Part Number: AWR1642BOOST
Other Parts Discussed in Thread: DCA1000EVM, AWR1642, UNIFLASH

DO NOT CLOSE THIS POST, CLOSE OLD ONES BUT NOT THIS ONE. I have been trying for the last three months to get pc to detect dev packs without any luck. Support has failed to provide me with a solution. I am using

5V 3A power source for dca1000evm

5V 3A power source for awr1642

Since each device has it's own power source, the switch of dca1000evm can not be turned ON. If it is own, dca1000evm would start heating up fast.

windows 10 (64 bit)

USB Hub with its own power source

USB Network Adapter, USB 3.0 to RJ45 Gigabit

Mathwork run time engine(8.5.1)

Wmwave, Uniflash, code compressor

Stellaris_FTDI-2_06_00 drivers

IP of ethernet has changed to 192.168.33.30

Red and green lights are blinking when connects dca1000evm to awr1642.

I know upper port for dca1000 should not be connected but that was for testing.

Problem: PC does not detect drivers of DCA1000EVM. there are SEVEN drivers and I have only two(see device manger picture). I need a solution, please do not tell me an obvious answer(I Have been trying for three months and tried 5 PC's)

Thank you for your time

  • Hi

We need to determine why you can't see the DCA1000 FTDI COM ports on your PC.

Please try without any USB hub

Before you do anything else you need to see the COM ports as shown in the training slides.

Notice that the SOP jumpers on the AWR1642EVM are not correct. This will be an issue later.

Please see correct settings in the DCA1000 training slides

  • Hi,

I checked with the team and we have used the DCA1000 with USB hub many times with no problem.

Could you check the voltage level at the ftdi chip? Schematics of the DCA1000 are available on the EVM page.

We need to determine if the board is functional or not

    thank you

    Cesar

  • Hello Ali,

    Can you clarify this statement?

"Since each device has it's own power source, the switch of dca1000evm can not be turned ON. If it is own, dca1000evm would start heating up fast."

What do you mean by the switch cannot be turned on? Where part of the DCA1000 heating up? This is not normal for the board to be heating up, it sounds like there is a some sort of power issue going on. Possibly one of the IC may be damaged and the supply is shorting to ground internally on one of these chips.

Can you do a continuity test on the 5V input to GND to verify that the input supply is not shorted to GND?

The FTDI is supplied by 3.3V LDO, possibly there is something wrong here. Can you probe at L3 and see if this output is at 3.3V? Can you also check to see if either side of FL4 is at 3.3V and if any part of this connection is shorted to ground? You can find the schematic and assembly files here:

    http://www.ti.com/general/docs/lit/getliterature.tsp?baseLiteratureNumber=sprr350&fileType=zip

Also, has this board ever worked in the past? Or has it always had this issue?

    Regards,

    Adrian

  • it turned out that dca1000evm is defected from factory. The pc should detect the device but it does not. radar had wrong version installed in it from ti. Power switch is on right position. Now radar is connected without the bored and using mmwave demo. Although I can not open data file after it generated using mmwave demo. The dca1000evm has not worked since day one. PC should detect it as soon as it is connected without installing anything. thanks

  • Hello Ali,

All the boards are tested at the factory. Any defective boards are screened out.

    Vivek
