Hi, I have been using a DCA1000 with the AWR1642 and I have an issue with mmWave Studio detecting the board consistently. Most of the time I have to restart mmWave studio many times before the DCA1000 board is actually detected and sometimes even when it's detected, it might not be able to read the data I am trying to collect so I would then have to restart mmWave studio many more times before I can read in any sort of data. I can usually get through all the other parts with connectivity and configurations and the FPGA version, but when I trigger the frame it would either gray out the boxes until I close mmWave studio or it would start and end the triggering process but output an adc file that is 0 bytes. Is there some wave to resolve this issue?

    You may want to check the USB cables used and the power supply.

    We recommend you use a 3A power supply.

  • I have similar issues using a 3A power supply. The board is not detected and when it is I am unable to use it. This issue has been consistent among different boards I have and different PCs where I have test them. Any advice?

    You are attempting to load firmware to your AWR1642 device that is built for a different device. You are trying to load the firmware for AWR1243 and AWR1443 to your device. Make sure you are loading the firmware for AWR1642.

    In the latest mmWave Studio release, MSS and BSS firmware for AWr1642 is included in the installation.

    It also looks like your RS232 connection does not complete successfully based on the logs you uploaded.

    Can you provide a complete picture(s) of your setup?

    Since you are using an AWR1243 ES 2.0 device, you need to use mmWave Studio v1.0. If you try to use v2.0 or later, you will run into these device timeout issues. Please revert to the correct version of mmWave Studio for your specific device.

    You should use the firmware that is included in the mmWave Studio installation, not the firmware from the DFP that you are pointing to. The firmware files are found here in the mmWave Studio version 1.0 folder: C:\ti\mmwave_studio_01_00_00_00\rf_eval_firmware

    If you were to look at the release notes for DFP v1.2.5.1, you would find that the MSS and BSS firmware files are for ES 3.0 devices. As stated in my previous post, you have an ES 2.0 device. You can either use the firmware that is provided in the mmWave Studio installation folder or use a previous version of the DFP. If you do decide to use an earlier version of the DFP, please read through the release notes to make to ensure compatibility.

    A couple of things that I notice from your pictures.

    On the DCA1000, SW1 should be set where only "16BIT_ON" is set. It should be set as:

    - SW1.1 = OFF

    - SW1.2 = OFF

    - SW1.3 = ON

    For SW2, it should be set as:

    - SW2.1 = OFF

    - SW2.2 = ON

    - SW2.3 = OFF

    - SW2.4 = OFF

    - SW2.5 = ON

    - SW2.6 = ON

    - SW2.7 = OFF

    - SW2.8 = OFF

    These settings do not match the ones that you provided in your pictures and could be preventing proper functionality.

    You need to invert all of the positions on SW1.

    - SW1.2 = ON

    - SW1.3 = OFF

    Please upload a picture of what your Device Manager looks like when you have the AWR1243BOOST and DCA1000 connected. Make sure all six COM ports are populated.

    Try using the example program in DFP v1.0. See if you can get your AWR1243BOOST EVM working without the DCA1000.

    For this application, you need either a DevPack or a DCA1000EVM connected to your PC and the AWR1243BOOST. I configured the AWR1243BOOST so that only SOP0 was closed.
