IWR1443: Signal and image band report with interferer

Part Number: IWR1443
Other Parts Discussed in Thread: MMWAVE-STUDIO,

Hi Team,

Q1. Is Signal and image band report with interferer supported on MMWAVE-STUDIO like the below plot?

Q2. If no, when will it be supported?

There is the following description in mmWave Studio Users Guide.

21.1.2 CQ plots (chirp quality metrics)

Chirp quality metrics are used to identify regions of a chirp affected by interference. It is still under development. The metrics used are namely

Q3. Have IWR1443 a capability of interference detection as AWR1x?

Q4. Will the image be observed larger than the signal when there is interference like the plot?

Thanks and Best regards,

  • Hi,  Kuerbis:

Q1. Is Signal and image band report with interferer supported on MMWAVE-STUDIO like the below plot?

    Not yet.

Q2. If no, when will it be supported?

Not sure.  Will ask around and get back to you later.

Q3: Have IWR1443 a capability of interference detection as AWR1x?

Yes.   Channel quality information are supported in all the mmwave radar.   But so far, the detection has not supported in SDK release.

Q4. Will the image be observed larger than the signal when there is interference like the plot?

It is possible.  In some cases, the ADC glitch will be very high compare to the regular ADC samples.  Then it will be very easy to see in both signal band and image band.   In addition, usually when the interference happens, it is shown in image band and signal band one after another (in time).  So, you may see the high ADC glitch in image band first, then you see the similar high ADC glitch in signal band, or vice versa.   The only exception is when the interference is happening at the edge of the chirp, and it may not have time to fully appear on the other band before the ramp ended.

In order to observe the interference, you can try to test the victim radar in a clean environment (less cluttered area) and have the interfere radar placed close.  And usually the ADC glitch will be really high for you to observe it from the ADC samples.

    Best,
