CCS/IWR6843: Real time trace pinout with IWR6843...

Part Number: IWR6843
Other Parts Discussed in Thread: , MMWAVEICBOOST

Tool/software: Code Composer Studio

Dear community,

I have read is possible to trace in real time with IWR6843  using XDS200 or XDS560v2 with 4 lines of jtag and 10 lines of trace debuggin, which incluces 2 of control ( trace clk, trace ctl) with 8 lines of data.

Nonetheless I have observed for regular convention of JTAG, debug traces 5,6,7 are not included in arragement of jtag pinout TI convention:

As you can see in 20 pin JTAG EMU signals only include from EMU0-EMU4. So what about the others? How should be used ?

Thanks in advance.

  • Hi Omar,

I've asked an expert to look into this and we should have an answer for you later this week.

    Cheers,

    Akash

  • Many thanks Akash!! I'll be waiting for your responses.

  • Hello,

Trace pins are available on the MIPI 60 pin connector as shown below.

Currently this is supported only on the XDS560pro, regular 14 pin JTAG doesn't support Trace emulation capability.

To use the JTAG on the mipi 60 pin connector you need to disconnect the JTAG from XDS110 default connection through S12 switch.

Please refer to EVM user guide section indicated below.

    Thanks and regards,

  • Hi Chethan,

Thanks for your response. So let thinking on this:

I want to make an adapt board with a male 60 MIPI connector to IWR6843AoP EVM board to get jtag signals from IWR6843AOP using XDS200 as TRACE/EMULATOR device. Like this adaptor:

According to technical datasheets for JTAG on IWR6843AOP, control signals are available but EMU goes from EMU0 to EMU7.

As you can see on JTAG pin of 20 píns all signals are available with exception of EMU goes from EMU0 to EMU4.  But MMWAVEICBOOST has XDS110 with emu capabalities as textually says:

Debug and emulation through onboard XDS110 (slow but possible).

So if MMWAVEICBOOST can Debug and Emulate with XDS110:

Can XDS200 support partially debug and trace emulation with 20 pins (EMU0 to EMU4) with these adaptations? No matter if XDS200 is slow compared to XDS560Pro.

I want to avoid the use of XDS560 in all its versions 'cos is really expensive.

    Thanks in advance.

  • Hello,

Your idea is good, However, the XDS200 does not have support for Core or SystemTrace exported to external pins. We have not verified XDS200 debug probe on AWR/IWR devices. Hence cannot confirm on the compatibility.

    Thanks and regards,

    CHETHAN KUMAR Y.B.

  • Hi,

So the only way to solve this is to test XDS200 and lets see if this works.

    Thanks.
