AWR1243BOOST: Question of Test Source target position.

Part Number: AWR1243BOOST
Other Parts Discussed in Thread: AWR1243, AWR1642BOOST,

Hi,

I am new to this Signal Processing background and I have read about AWR1243 + DCA1000 and its use .

I came to know by some threads that internally we had option to generate the targets with different positions , velocities and powers .Successfully configured and processed !

But i have few doubts about the target position settings .i.e.,

Object1:

position(X=5,Y=7,Z=0) , Velocities (0,0,0), power(-2.5)

after processing the IQ raw data in matlab GUI i have seen the object at X = -5 ;

Que:  When i simulated target at X=5 but after processing object detected at X=-5 ? Why ?( mirror image ?)

Is there any reason behind it ?

Please let me know .

Please reply me as early as possible !

You can also see the similar results which i got and observed in the below link / thread.

  • Hi,

We are checking with extended team if there are any known issues with the mmWave Studio Test Source.

In the mean time, I recommend using a physical target such as a metal object, bicycle, car...

    thank you

    Cesar

  • Teja,

Make sure you have an ES 3.0 AWR1243 device are that you are using the latest firmware release along with the latest mmWave Studio version.

The latest firmware for your device will be included in the mmWave Studio installation which can be found here: http://software-dl.ti.com/ra-processors/esd/MMWAVE-STUDIO/latest/index_FDS.html

    Regards,

    Kyle

  • Hi Kyle,

    I am using AWR1642boost with mmWavestudio (version - 2.1.0.0)

    Using

    BSS FW : C:\ti\mmwave_studio_02_01_00_00\mmWaveStudio\Scripts\..\...\rf_eval_firmware\radarss\xwr12xx_xwr14xx_radarss.bin

    MSS FW : C:\ti\mmwave_studio_02_01_00_00\mmWaveStudio\Scripts\..\...\rf_eval_firmware\masterss\xwr12xx_xwr14xx_masterss.bin

    BSS firmware version: 2.0.0.1 (05/10/17)

BSS Patch firmware ver: 1.2.5.2 (30/04/19)

    MSS firmware version: 1.2.5.1  (12/07/19)

    MSS Patch firmware ver: NA

    GUI Version : 2.1.0.0

    Radar Link version : 2.0.9.0 (31/07/19)

    Post Proc Version : 4.86

Even using this also by results are not changed ( no change )

  • Teja,

Try using a corner reflector or other object that is a strong reflector and see if you arrive at the correctly expected results in the Post Processing tool in mmWave Studio.

    Regards,
    Kyle

  • Yes , by using objects in front of radar (AWR1243boost) it is working fine but i want to simulate and test my post processing algorithm up to 300 mts for that i am using test source in mmWave Studio then i found this dug and thinking that there must be some reason behind it .

doubt 2:  And One more thing that i noticed is when i am using(device :AWR1243boost )  TDM MIMO mode with test source the Phase of antennas are as mention below .

Tx1 , Tx3 are azimuth antennas and Tx 2 is elevation antenna.

Relative symbol phase at 8 antennas:

    Tx1Rx1  Tx1Rx2  Tx1Rx3  Tx1Rx4

        0            wx         2wx        3wx

    Tx3Rx1  Tx3Rx2  Tx3Rx3  Tx3Rx4

        0            wx         2wx        3wx

In general the phase of Tx3 should be like

    Tx3Rx1  Tx3Rx2  Tx3Rx3  Tx3Rx4

        4wx        5wx        6wx        7wx

    Why is so ?

should i need to do any calibration or setting to get correct Relative symbol phase at 8 antennas?

If so please tell me how to do it ?

    Thank you !

Do reply as earlier as possible .

  • Still looking forward to hear answer from you!

  • Tried , working fine with practical objects in front of radar .

Can you suggest me the setting for Test source to work in TDM MIMO mode .

  • Yes

I confirmed that TestSource does not support MIMO. Only single TX

    Thank you
    Cesar
