Other Parts Discussed in Thread: MMWCAS-DSP-EVM, MMWCAS-RF-EVM
We have a combo MMWCAS-RF-EVM / MMWCAS-DSP-EVM and are trying to get it connected with the mmWaveStudio GUI and are having some difficulty.
We are using mmWave Studio version 02.01.00.00
We are using mmWave DFP version 01.02.05.01 to provide the xwr12xx_metaImage.bin mentioned in the document
The mmWave Studio version 02.01.00.00 does not appear to have a "meta image" binary, and the radar / master RSS firmware images do not seem to be compatible.
We are following the document:
mmwave_studio_cascade_users_guide.pdf
Available here:
software-dl.ti.com/.../mmwave_studio_cascade_user_guide.pdf
The high-level description:
We seem to be able to follow all the steps necessary to connect to the development kit from a laptop but are getting timeout errors when we try to start collecting data.
Details:
We are able to get the EVK set up, following steps in sections 4, 5, and 6 of the users guide. We have put firmware on an SD card, can boot the system and log in over the console COM port, and have partitioned the SSD, and properly configured the Ethernet.
We are able to follow all the steps to get the PC running mmWave Studio to connect to the EVK over Ethernet (Section 7.3.1 "TDA Configuration").
We also seem to be able to successfully connect to the EVK master and slave devices over SPI, load firmware (file xwr12xx_metaImage.bin from mmWave DFP version 01.02.05.01 in firmware folder), and power on the RF (Section 7.3.2 "Device Configuration").
I've attached a screenshot showing all four devices connected, which in the MMWave Studio shows all the version information as well.
The problems arise when we try to "arm" the system to collect data (Section 7.3.3 "Capturing Data").
We receive timeout errors after attempting "TDAxx ARM" as well as attempting to follow instructions to trigger the frames on the slave, and then master devices. The "Framing Status" always remains "NOT FRAMING" and never transitions to either "WAITING FOR TRIGGER" or "FRAMING" as described in the user guide.
We presume that our setup of the frame configuration (previously in section 7.3.2) was erroneous but we're not sure where we might have gone wrong.
In a response I will attach a dump of the "Output" window showing the debug output. Everything seems to indicate success / pass until the "TDAxx ARM" step, and subsequent attempts to start triggers.
Any help in this matter would be appreciated, especially pointing us to documentation or scripts that would perform some basic frame configuration, nothing fancy, just something basic that would get us rolling and collecting some evaluation data.
As an additional point of support, is there any way to automate or script the setup steps. It's very tedious to have to connect, download firmware, and power up all the devices, then configure the frames, etc. and it would be great to be able to package that together in fewer clicks.
