AWR1642BOOST: Heat sink area problem

Part Number: AWR1642BOOST
Other Parts Discussed in Thread: AWR1642

Dear support team:

I found there is a heat sink area introduced by the datasheet (AWR1642 revB).

There are two questions about it:

What’s the heat sink area meaning?

In my opinion, is this area designed for us adding the self-designed heat sink?

Thanks.

Best Regards,

Roger

  • Hello Roger,

You are right. This area basically has exposed copper connected to ground vias connecting to the AWR chip. So you could design a heat sink which would contact this copper area and hence help dissipate the heat from the AWR.
