AWR1243: Is AWR1243P firmware needed ?

Part Number: AWR1243
Other Parts Discussed in Thread: MMWAVE-DFP

Hi,

My customer would like to use AWR1243P to enable cascade feature on their custom board and I got some questions from them:

1) AWR1243P  is performance variant of AWR1243 and the main differences of the features between AWR1243P and AWR1243 are, for example, the number of simultaneous Tx channel and cascading option. My understanding is that the chip itself is exactly same between them and TI additionally tests and characterizes AWR1243P to support these features for the performance. Correct, right ?

2) In case of AWR1243, we need a firmware from the MMWAVE-DFP package. How about the case of AWR1243P cascading ? Can we suppose to use the same firmware ( MMWAVE-DFP package for AWR1243) on AWR1243P and that is still needed to deploy on the external QSPI Flash ? Or, do you have a specific firmware for AWR1243P ?

Best Regards,
NK

  • Hi,

    1) The AWR1243 and AWR1243P are different parts.

    2) The firmware for both AWR1243 and AWR1243P is the same. There is no AWR1243P-specific firmware package.

  • HI Anand,

    Thanks for your quick reply.

    1) Understand that those are different parts. But we can use AWR1243 datasheet for AWR1243P. Correct ?
    2) I will suggest the same to the customer. I need a clarification -- from the datasheet, there is no MCU (R4F) on AWR1243 and AWR1243P. But still, we need a firmware. Can you explain ?

    Best Regards,
    NK

  • Hi NK,

    1) The datasheet for the AWR1243 and AWR1243P is the same. Any information sepcific to the AWR1243P is pointed out explicitly.

    2) There is no user-programmable MCU on the AWR1243/AWR1243P. There are RadarSS and MasterSS subsystems that require firmware. This firmware is developed by TI and are not user-programmable.
