OPT3001: Device Function Modes

Part Number: OPT3001
Other Parts Discussed in Thread: OPT3004

Hi Team,

Our customer has some clarifications concerning OPT3001.

1. Is the "Interrupt Reporting Mechanism Modes" necessary for reading out the data from this sensor?

2. For the 6 Internal Register Maps in section 7.6.1, which ones are necessary and which ones are optional for the normal function of this sensor?

Thank you very much.

Kind Regards,

Jejomar

  • Hi Jejomar,

Interrupt reporting is not required to read data from the sensor. If you are looking for the simplest way to configure the sensor this is actually pretty quick. You only need to write to the configuration register (see Mode of conversion operation field) to take the device out of power down mode to either continuous conversion or single-shot mode. Once this is done the device will capture data using the default settings and either continuously take data or take a single shot and then power down in the case of single-shot mode.

For simplest operation I would advice continuous mode. Data is then read from the result register. In default setting device will take data every ~800ms so MCU can poll data by reading from the result register in a interval slightly higher than that.

  • Also wanted to ask, why OPT3001 and not OPT3004?

  • Hi Alex,

I am wondering what is the difference between OPT 3001 and OPT 3004? Besides the following for OPT 3004?

    • Rejects > 99% (Typical) of IR over ±85° Angle of Incidence
  • Hi,

There are not many differences. OPT3004 is a newer part we recently released that improves on the IR rejection across angles. The OPT3004 also has a slightly expanded field of view. Other than that please refer to the spectral response plot and that is the only other difference between the two. OPT3004 has slightly better pricing structure as well.
