IWR1642:How can 1642 & 6843ISK work in elevation?

Part Number: IWR1642
Other Parts Discussed in Thread: IWR6843, IWR6843ISK

I have a question about the IWR1642& 6843. Can 6843ISK & 1642 work in elevation? The angle resolution in elevation of 6843 isk is 58 degree, but the fov is only 30 degree. And 1642 has only 2 tx. How can they work? If we want 1642 to work in elevation, do we need to sacrifice the azimuth?

  • Hi Peter,

I've asked an expert to look into this and we should have an answer for you later this week.

  • Hi,

Yes, the IWR6843 ISK board can detect target angle in both azimuth and elevation.   Note that the accuracy of angle estimation is depending on the SNR of the target.   Yes, it can not separate two targets (same range, same Doppler) well due to the large angle resolution.  But angle accuracy and angle resolution is two different things.   So, I would say for IWR6843ISK board, you can still get good accuracy of the elevation angle.

The IWR1642 ISK board will not be able to detect elevation angle.  Instead, you can try a IWR1642 ODS board.

And yes, it will be a tradeoff between azimuth resolution and elevation resolution for different antenna patterns.

    Best,
