IWR6843AOPEVM: Using IWR6843AOPEVM in waveguide mode for localization on surface

Hi,

I am interested in obtaining 2D position estimates on a steel surface. The idea is to configure IWR6843AOPEVM in such a way that it can guide surface waves into the steel, which can then be picked up by the RX to get its (x,y) position w.r.t. TX.

Is it possible to modify IWR6843AOPEVM in order to achieve this use case? Is there an alternative antenna module that could couple signals into a conductive surface?

Hi,

are you trying to get the 2D position estimate of an object on the steel or the position of the steel? The antenna module on the IWR6843AOPEVM or any other mmWave EVM cannot be modified except by building another EVM.

if the object is in a different range or has different Doppler characteristics from the steel surface you may be able to detect it. You will have to experiment with the setup to confirm this.
