FDC2214: FDC2214 Ground Electrodes

Part Number: FDC2214

I have two questions:

1)      When the FDC is working in multi-channel mode, what is the voltage level for the channels 1, 2 and 3 (let’s say that channel 0 is activated and measuring)?

2)      Is possible to use a switch to force the input be ground?, i.e. the electrode would be directly ground for that time.

  • Hi Eduardo,

When the drive current is set correctly, the sensor oscillation amplitude should be between 1.2V - 1.8V. You can use this application note to set the drive current:http://www.ti.com/lit/an/snoa950/snoa950.pdf

Although the app note is written for inductive sensing devices, the drive current setting are applicable to the FDC2x1y devices as well.

The FDC INxA/INxB pins should never be forced to ground. They are internally shorted to GND when the given channel is not actively being measured. At best forcing the input to ground while the channel is being actively measured will disrupt the measurement.

    Best Regards,
