TDC1000: TDC1000 IS GIVING THE SAME TOF VALUE WITH OR WITHOUT THE MATERIAL PRESENT IN THE GLASS

Part Number: TDC1000
Other Parts Discussed in Thread: CC2652R

Hi all,

I am working with the cc2652r board and we have implemented a TDC1000 sensor on that board.

While working with TDC1000, I found that it is giving the same ToF value for whether the content in a glass jar is empty or filled.

I am using a 1MHz transducer (Steminc piezoelectric ceramic transducer) that is firmly fixed.

Can anyone help me?

Best Regards

Devika

  • Hello Devika,

Thank you for using ti.com and the E2E forum to reach out to us. Is your material in Glass liquid ? In regards to TDC1000 if you are reading the ToF value consistently and if its inaccurate I would highly recommend that you monitor if the transducer is mounted appropriately to the Glass.

If the transducer is mounted to a glass and the thickness of the glass material also impacts the measurement of the material. If glass material thickness is beyond the capability of the transducer then the changes in the material cannot be measured. if the transducer is mounted such that if it has air gaps then this can also contribute to issues.

I recommend for your application to monitor the signals on the input of the transducer and also the receive path to ensure that the TDC100 is bursting and also is able to receive the data.

For further information regarding the TDC1000 I recommend looking at our FAQ on the forum in regards to ultrasonics and also look at the collateral available on the TDC1000 Technical documents.

  • The material in the glass container is solid. And the transducer is mounted on the side of the jar, not on the top.

I think the glass material thickness is beyond the capability of the transducer and we mounted transducer by using glue. But we have checked with plastic container also (thickness of the plastic is less). For plastic, it is showing different readings for each ToF measurement without content in that jar. In plastic, we mounted transducer with tape.

I am adding one more thing that, before starting Tof measurement, I am writing ERROR_FLAG register to 3h.

  • please, can anyone give me response to this query?

  • Hi Devika,

Are you able to see the start stop pulses ? If you were to take the transducer out of the box and just measure an object are you able to see a difference ? I would first start with making sure that the setup is ok with using the transducer and perhaps using your hand gesture to recognize if the ToF is being registered. i would also make sure to see if the pulse burst is 1Mhz and is the 1mhz really being sent to the transducer. Meanwhile I highly recommend you review our documentation to follow the debug steps

FAQ and the technical documents in the TDC1000 product folder.

  • Hi Devika,

I have not heard from you in a while. I am going to close thos thread and meanwhile if you have any question please do feel free to post another question.
