HDC2080: HDC2080 humidity sensor query

Part Number: HDC2080

Hi,

We are using HDC2080 sensor in our temperature sensor product. We are measuring temp and humidity with this sensor and this information is advertised by BLE IC. We have one query for Humidity specs for this sensor:

In the Electrical characteristics in datasheet it is given, HDC2080 recommends Humidity range 20-80%RH(non-Condensing) over 0-60°C.

Our humidity measurement requirement is requirement is 0-95%RH for operating temperature range of -30C to 55C.

Please suggest how to proceed with HDC2080 with this requirement or please suggest any other sensor part.

  • In addition to this, there is one more query:

HDC2080 recommends Humidity range 20-80%RH(non-Condensing) over 0-60°C, what will be the Humidity range in the temperature range of -30C to 0C i.e. at any other temperature other than 0C to 60C.??

  • Dear Sonu -

The amount humidity air can hold below 0C and below is quite small.

At 60C and ~68%RH, corrosion will start around same temp and ~77%RH, mechanical damage to equipment will occur.

This is why the accuracy is specified from 0 to 60C and 20 to 80%RH, because this is where most applications are operating in.

As stated in the datasheet, the %RH part of the device is recommended to be operated -20 and 70C and from 0 to 100%RH. So i think it meets the requirement you have stated, if you can see that reading %RH at low temps and below 0C may not be useful.

  • Hi Josh,

Thanks for the confirmation. I understand humidity reading taken below 0C may not be useful but just for understanding I want to know this HDC2080 sensor can measure humidity below 0C or not??

    Please confirm.

  • Yes, as stated in datasheet, we do recommend operating conditions between -20C and 70C for %RH sensor.

This is TRH in the datasheet, on page 4.
