TDC7201: Sampling rate about TDC7201

Part Number: TDC7201
Other Parts Discussed in Thread: TDC7200,

Hi,

I am looking TDC7201/TDC7200 for ToF applications and I have some questions:

1. What is the maximum sampling rate of TDC7200/7201?

2. Can you confirm that the minimum pulse width for start/stop signal  for TDC7200/7201 is 10ns? What happens if the pulse width is less than that (e.g. 5ns)?

Thanks

  • Hello User,

Thanks for using the e2e forum.

Can you please be specific on the sampling rate question ? Are you referring to SPI clock interface if yes its 25 Mhz

In regards to minimum pulse width. its 10nS. We dont guarantee the parts behavior if the pulse width is lower than 10nS.

  • Hi Arjun,

    Thanks for your reply.

By sampling rate, I mean how many times of measurements can be done in one second. Just like the sampling rate of a ADC. Users like me want to know how fast can a TDC7201 achieve.

If you look into the AMS GPX-2 (https://ams.com/tdc-gpx2), the peak measurement rate is 70 Mega samples per second.

    Thanks

  • Hello Thanks for additional inputs. The TDC7200 architecture is built such that the the device is continuously sampling the measurements and storing it in a register and the contents of the register can be read using the SPI register. Internally to the device there is a counter that is continuously sampling the start stop information real time. Section 8.3.2 of the datasheet helps explain this. Let me know if this helps.
