FDC2214: sensor frequency

Part Number: FDC2214

Hi,

We are using the FDC2214 component with our capacitive sensor. This sensor varies from 0.4nF to 5nF.

So, with the FDC2214EVM and the 18uh inductor, we have a frequency sensor between 1.7Mhz and 560Khz. We use Fref = 40Mhz

on the datasheet P42, you calculate the frequency sensor to 5.15Mhz.

What is the best sensor frequency ? why did you choose 5.15Mhz?

Regards,

Mickael

  • Hi Mickael,

From a resolution standpoint, the optimal sensor frequency is between 400kHz to 6MHz. The 5.15MHz sensor frequency was selected because the maximum sensor frequency occurs with no target interaction, so even with target interactions the sensor frequency will stay within the optimal range.

Your frequencies are within the optimal range, so you shouldn't need to make any changes.

    Best Regards,
