AWR1443BOOST: Speed of vehicle

Part Number: AWR1443BOOST
Other Parts Discussed in Thread: AWR1443

Hello,

Can we use AWR1443BOOST, to measure true ground speed of vehicle like the conventional CW Doppler radar which is generally mounted on vehicle at 55 degrees ? If yes at what angel we should mount the same on vehicle?  Then how to use this angle information to calculate speed?

Any example if exist please share the same.

Thanks & Regards

Prashant Koparde

  • Hi Prashant,

There is no specific example or experiment available to this use-case. Although in this case you need to rely on road clutter to find the vehicle speed.

The angle of sensor placement needs to be found based on different experiments.

  • Hello Jitendra,

Can we measure speed of vehicle using AWR1443BOOST?   What do you mean by rely on road clutter to find the vehicle speed,Can you elaborate ?

    Regards

  • Hello Prashant,

As I mentioned earlier that we don't have full proof experiment of this usecase but it is possible to measure vehicle speed using mmWave Sensor. Based on memory requirement I can't confirm with AWR1443 but based on the experiment it may possible.

To measure the speed, it would require to measure the speed of clutter/reflection from the road when EVM is mounted on the vehicle at some angle.
