FDC2214EVM: I woukd like to ask a question about Long Wire related EMI.

Part Number: FDC2214EVM
Other Parts Discussed in Thread: FDC2214,

I use FDC2214 EVM for development.

When I was checking the schematic in the data sheet, I noticed the red frame shown in the figure.

How long does "Long Wire" mentioned here mean?
Since the length to the sensor is about 15㎝, if you are not worried about it, do you need to take special care?

I hope you can answer

Regards,

Masato

  • Hello Masato,

Yes, I would consider 15cm to be a long wire. I suggest adding footprints for these capacitors and common mode chokes to your design. You may not need to use them, but in case you do you can easily populate them. If you notice we have footprints for filter capacitors included on the bottom of the EVM.

  • Hello Kristin,

Thank you for answering every time.

I understand. I'll do what you said.

I want to ask another question, is it okay here?
I want to prepare another FDC2214EVM board and move it with the board on top of each other.
Is there any bad effect if the sensors (FDC2214 IC and LC tanks) are just behind the board?
I think it's an irregular usage, but I'd be glad if you could give me some wisdom.
    Best Regards,
    Masato
  • Hello Masato,

Can you clarify how the boards will be placed? The sensors could generate noise if they are placed near sensitive signals. They can also interfere with each other if the two devices are active at the same time. This second problem can be solved by placing one FDC in sleep mode when the other is sensing.
