Hello,

I have a IWR1642BOOST Kit.

we want to install it on doorway and count people coming in and going out from the entrance as shown in below scenario .

Can we use IWR1642boost EVAL KIT for this use-case,if yes then what is the recommended lab example to test this.

Hi Dhanraj,

You could use the People Counting software for IWR1642. However, this only tracks in a 2D plane, so if you mount on the doorway pointing down you will not be able to track people very easily. (This is designed to be mounted on a wall). You would be better off using the IWR6843 ODS with 3D People Counting. The ODS antenna design was built for overhead mount applications.

But IWR6843 does not support 76-77 Ghz.

Also IWR6843AOPEVM has 120' azimuth and 120' elevation fov, why we can't use that??

Hi Dhanraj,

The AoP EVM is functionally very similar to the ODS, so you can use that as well.

But IWR6843 does not support 76-77 Ghz. In india that is the only license free band.

how we will be able to achieve the same performance for 76-77 Ghz ?

Hi Dhanraj,

Field of View is based on the antenna design, so you will need to design an antenna for IWR1843 that matches your requirements.

1) Can TI/TI community experts help us with same reference design suitable for ODS based on IWR1843?

2) Can we expect mmwave module for ODS using IWR1843 from TI in near furture?

Hi Dhanraj,

1. We cannot design an antenna on the forum. My recommendation would be to evaluate with the IWR6843ODS - if this can work for you, then design an antenna for the IWR1843 - the software can easily be ported over and we can assist with the software port through E2E.

2. We cannot discuss release schedules on E2E. Please contact a local sales representative if you want more details.
