IWR6843ISK-ODS: People counting labs - Need of clarification about ES1.0 / ES2.0 compatibility , toolbox versions and future labs compatibility

Part Number: IWR6843ISK-ODS

Hello,

I have recently purchased the radar sensor IWR6843ISK-ODS and when I received it I figured out that it's ES2.0 version.

Unfortunately, I immediately realized that most of the labs that I was running for people counting (toolbox 4.1.0) are not compatible with ES2.0.

Instead, in the most recent version of the toolbox (4.2.0 at writing time) only the 3d people counting lab is available for ODS and ES2.0, whereas many of the older labs have been deprecated.

This created a bit of confusion in my mind and I would like to make it a bit clearer.

I would really appreciate if you could answer the following questions:

1) Would you please give some information regarding whether you will make available the older versions of the people counting labs also for the ES2.0 version or not?

And if yes, what is the estimated time they will be available in the next version of the toolbox?

In particular, I was interested in running the lab 68xx_overhead_people_counting included in version 4.1.0 of the toolbox, but unfortunately, it's compatible just with the ES1.0 version of the radar.

Is there any particular reason why you decided to deprecate this lab?

2) I was wondering if it is still possible to purchase the version ES1.0 of the IWR6843ISK-ODS radar or not.

3) I noticed that the lab 68xx_3D_people_counting of version 4.2.0 of the toolbox was written in python instead of Matlab.
Is this just a unique temporary choice or you are planning to move your future implementations towards the python environment?

Looking forward to receiving your feedback.

Best regards,

Alessandro

    1. We will not re-release deprecated labs. If you want to port these to ES2, we have a guide here.
    2. We are not shipping ES1 devices anymore. You may be able to find one in stock somewhere, but the ES1 is not a production ready device, and is no longer being produced.
    3. People Counting will remain on python. Every customer has access to python (its free) where much fewer customers have access to a Matlab licence. We also get much better real time performance with the python implementation - Matlab graphing does not run fast enough to graph the 3D radar output.
      1. Please note that this is the visualizer. The radar processing and tracking happens on the device, so you can take the output and use any coding language you want to interpret the data.

    Regards,
