IWR6843: SBL Stuck at "Parsing Completed" and never booting the downloaded image ...

Hi,

We are successfully building and running C:\ti\mmwave_industrial_toolbox_3_6_2\labs\lab0015_pplcount_68xx on our platform.

I am trying to get SBL working on our board IWR6843. We are trying to boot the same image with the below SBL images and both showing same issue. I followed the steps given in SBL_design.pdf.

Issue 1: We successfully flashed both SBL image (xwr86xx_sbl.bin) and people count application (pplcount_lab_xwr68xx.bin) through the uniflash from metaimage 1 and 4 respectively. Once flashing is done only main image is booting in next reboot and sbl doesn't come up. Please check the below log taken from uniflash.

issue 2: I flashed only SBL and it boots successfully in the next power reboot. I successfully uploaded the image from Teraterm XMODEM send option. The image got successfully downloaded in to flash. But the image got stuck at "Parsing Completed" message. The main image is never booting. Please see the SBL log where the main image is downloaded successfully from Teraterm XMODEM transfer. The next reboot again going to SBL and got stuck at "Parsing Completed". Please check the below log.

Successful flashing screen while flashing the image thru SBL.

Will the SBL works? If it is then what could be the wrong here?

Hi Yogesh,

This is the snap of our chip. I don't know whether it is ES1 or not.

Could you clarifiy what is ES1? and let me know if you have any procedure to check it out if the above snap is not enough?

You have ES1 device. See the below link for more information:

I have tested the SDK 3.3 with ES2 and the SBL works fine. You need SDK 3.2.0.4 for ES1. Could you please confirm if you are using

xwr68xx_sbl.bin from SDK 3.2.0.4.

Hi Senthil,

In addition to checking that you are using the correct SBL image, could you also check the following wrt the main application binary?

1. Try loading the pre-compiled demo binary provided with the people counting lab. The goal is to check whether you face issues only with your own compiled binary or with the TI provided pre-compiled binary as well?

2. If #1 fails even with the pre-compiled demo binary, try the same experiment with the mmw (i.e. out of box demo) demo binary from SDK 3.2.0.4 (instead of the people counting binary). The goal is to check whether the problem is seen only with people counting demo or in general with any demo when loaded through the SBL.

Hi Nitin,

Thanks for your suggestion. The prebuilt image "pplcount_lab_xwr68xx.bin" works fine with SBL. It boots successfully after the flash. I am not sure what is wrong with my own built image where I had not changed anything. It is just built with local source.

I noticed the prebuilt image size is 508 KB where as mine is 518 KB. Will it be the problem? If you have any more suggestion please let me know.

Hi Senthil,

It appears that the pplcount_lab_xwr68xx.bin image you compiled itself may not be working. Could you flash this image by itself, without the SBL, and see if it boots and works as expected? Again, the goal here is to isolate the issue to SBL or the particular application binary.

The image compiled by me boots successfully and works fine. Only SBL is not booting property.

Hi Senthil,

Please provide the complete build log from CCS console when you compile your own image using the projectspec. We need to look into what is different between this image and the pre-compiled image.

HI Senthil,

Looking at your MSS build log, I see that you are using ARM compiler 18.12.2 which comes with CCS 9. We have not tested this project with this latest ARM tool chain which is why we specify CCS 8.3 and TI ARM compiler version 16.9.6.LTS in our projects. Could you please try the build with the specified tool chain in CCS 8.3? Please create a new workspace to guarantee that it's a fresh build.
