AWR1843BOOST: Possibilities of detecting specific object using AWR1843_mmw_Demo

Part Number: AWR1843BOOST
Other Parts Discussed in Thread: AWR1843

Hallo TI,

Currently we are uisng AWR1843Boost along with xwr18xx_mmw_demo in order to detect an object. We would like to detect the object less than 1 meter range. While doing so we are also detecting some other objects, we could not figure out the object of interest in the detected objects.

Is therey any way we can detect specific objcet in the detected objects like shape of the object or something else using mmwave_demo example?

if not, How can we detect specific object using the radar?

Thank you.

  • Hi,

The radar sensor receives reflections from surrounding environment. It has no knowledge of "specific object"

If you have any knowledge of the approximate object location, then you could perform some filtering.

With AWR1843 you will also have some elevation information that can be used to make a decision

There are also more complex algorithms such as background subtraction that could be used.

What type of object are you trying to detect. Is it moving or static?

    Thank you

  • Hallo Cesar,

    Thank you for the info.

My object is kind of both static and moving. I would like to detect it, when it is static, and I sould move it to a specific location with the help of the radar. We thought of doing some location filtering, but as I mentiond it will not be at the same location so its bit hard to think of the filtering.

Will the detection improves with the moving objects over static ones?

    Thank you.

  • Yes,

Detection of moving objects is easier than static ones because ground clutter is not moving and separation can be performed in doppler domain.

For static objects, there is no doppler information so it is not possible to separate object from ground clutter.

    thank you
