OPT3004: OPT3004 Questions.

Part Number: OPT3004

Hi Sir,

Customer has the question we have for the readiness of conversion is about the continuous conversion.

Would you pls kindly help answr it? Thanks.

Background:

  1. The OPT3004 is initialized by a I2C host and set the conversion mode to continuous conversion.
  2. For power save purpose, the host chip may be powered of completely and the OPT3004 is kept given power even the host is at no power state.
  3. When the host is waked up, it will need to read the als result in shortest time without trigger a new conversion start.

Questions:

  1. How the conversion result is updated in the register when continuous conversion mode?
  2. In the continuous conversion mode, how the CRF is updated? Is it kept ready and non ready periodically or just hold before the latest conversion is read out?
  3. For 100ms and 800ms conversion mode, the difference is the precision of low luminance rage and the maximum luminance level to be sensed is the same for both mode , right?

Please kindly help it asap because customer will decide if should change to other sensor part to meet our demand for the particular use case.

Thanks, Ian.

  • Hi Ian,

    1. How the conversion result is updated in the register when continuous conversion mode?

Register will hold the previous value until the conversion finishes and is then updated. If device is left running as you described then they can read from the device when the MCU powers up and will get the data from the last conversion.

    2. In the continuous conversion mode, how the CRF is updated? Is it kept ready and non ready periodically or just hold before the latest conversion is read out?

This is only cleared when config reg is read so will remain at 1 until the config reg is read. It will then go back to 1 after next conversion completes

    3. For 100ms and 800ms conversion mode, the difference is the precision of low luminance rage and the maximum luminance level to be sensed is the same for both mode , right?

max is the same. For min 800ms is 10mLux and 100ms is 80mLux

    Best,

    Alex
