CCS/AWR1243: about Antenna Calibration for 4 chip cascade and ”2 chip cascade”

Part Number: AWR1243

Tool/software: Code Composer Studio

Hi,

Readme.txt of \mmwave_studio_02_01_00_00...\MatlabExamples\....\cascade\input says,
" calibrateResults_high.mat is an example calibration matrix from a particular board.”
■ Please provide additional information about "a particular board".

The reason is caution to the skip the ti-recommended CAL method while designing with a new PCB.
For example, by using CAS-RF-EVM provided by ti to examine the effect of the actual result for CAL presence
If the “specific board” is the same pattern as the EVM that I have at present, it can be predicted that the effect of Ant-Cal implementation is relatively small.
Using a completely different design of the pattern antenna can be very effective.

Those who can not execute the CAL method claims that CAL-equivalent processing can be achieved by measuring the CR 50 cm ahead and crafting only the phase and focusing the final result.
At this time, the gain imbalance between the antennas is ignored.
CR:Corner reflector RCS=1.815[m2], 2.59[dBsm]

■ If the ti provided CAL method (mmWave Studio with 2cas) does not work,
Please tell us your thoughts about this.

  • Hi,

The calibration matrix is from the cascade RF EVM only, but the it may vary slightly from board to board and hence we recommend the user to calibrate it once before using.

The calibration method provided by TI is just for reference and works only in the case of a specific antenna pattern. If you're using a different design of the pattern antenna, you will have to modify the scripts accordingly.
