LDC2112: The short side of the inductor

Part Number: LDC2112

Hi Kristin

The following figure is on the LDC2112 specification page 28.

The short side is 1.9mm, so 10% is 0.19mm.

I filled in the excel tool and I found that the distance of 0.19mm is failed(RP too low), but if the distance is increased to 0.6mm, it will pass.

My question is should I follow the spec or focus on the excel tool?

thank you.

  • Hello Alex,

You need to follow both specifications. The excel tool is highlighting a problem when the sensor is outside of the range that the LDC2112 can drive. This range is specified in the electrical characteristics table. The other specification (keeping the target within 10% of the sensor coil's diameter) is required to maximize the touch button sensitivity.

If you increase your sensor inductance you can use the recommended target distance. You can add more turns or more layers. I notice that your Coil Fill Ratio is 0.49 right now. For button applications we actually recommend making this number as small as possible, so this should help you fit in more turns.

    Best Regards,
