TDC7201-ZAX-EVM: GUI shows error: The VI is not executable. The full development version of LabVIEW is required to fix the errors.

Part Number: TDC7201-ZAX-EVM
Other Parts Discussed in Thread: TDC1000

When executing TDC720xEVM GUI on my laptop, it shows error message: "The VI is not executable. The full development version of LabVIEW is required to fix the errors."

I already verified I have the latest .NET Framework version and also that the latest LabVIEW Run-time engine is installed. I already took a look at similar issues but most of them are solved by fixing something in the code which I don't have access to. I would recommend to try to reproduce the issue on your end and identify if there is any component missing. Is there any updated version of this VI? I see it was developed for 2010 SP1, is there a newer version that we could try?

  • Hi Jorge,

We will try to reproduce the issue on a PC that does not already have the full version of LabVIEW installed.

As you've already researched, this is a reoccurring error among TDC72xx users. Unfortunately, the original software team that created this GUI is no longer at TI. As the latest support member, I am very much inclined to create a new GUI that is not dependent on LabVIEW drivers at this point. I'll try to get you an update and potential fix. Due to the precautions and remote work setting we have taken to minimize the spread of COVID-19, it may be difficult to get a hold of another/bare laptop immediately.

Have you already reached out to National Instruments to find out if they are able to identify the missing LabVIEW component(s) on your PC?

  • Hi Akeem,

Thank you for your assistance, this is Jorge from National Instruments Technical Support. I already created a technical report of NI's installed software the customer has one computer where the issue doesn't show up. The issue shows up on his laptop and mine. The three computers have exactly the same software components. I even have the full version of LabVIEW installed and it has the same error.

As the error itself specifies "The full development version of LabVIEW is required to fix the errors", this means that we actually need the code to be able to fix it. I was wondering if there is any specific setup or location of additional files or components to execute the application. According to the readme file, only the LabVIEW 2010 Run-time engine is needed to execute the application. This issue might be caused when the application tries to load a dependency and is not able to locate it. I was wondering if the program uses any LabVIEW component or toolkit that wasn't deployed with the installer and is not listed in the readme file.

    Regards,

  • Hi Jorge,

I assume you have the latest version (2019) of the full LabVIEW development suite installed, but does this include the LabVIEW 2010 SP1 Run-time engine components?

I have attempted to install the TDC720xEVM GUI on a Windows 7 OS laptop that did not have any LabVIEW drivers previously installed. After installation, I restarted the PC to finalize the NI related program file installation. The GUI installed and runs successfully, so I am still unable to replicate the error.

You are correct that access to the LabVIEW source code would help to identify the specific dependencies. Unfortunately, the GUI source code from the old support team is not currently unavailable/unreachable. Side note, it looks like the GUI installs the run time engine for 2010, 2011, 2012, and 2013, so there may be more dependencies outside of the 2010 RTE.

How do you recommend comparing the NI program files I have (for the working GUI) versus the NI program files you have (for the failed launch GUI)? Are there any NI files that may be installed outside of the program files directory?

  • Hi Akeem,

I am using LabVIEW 2019 SP1 on my computer. I installed it on a Windows 10 pc. I was taking a look at the requirements and this application needs Windows 7. I was able to install the GUI on a Windows 7 machine and it works as expected. To generate NI software components list we generate a custom MAX Report which uses NI MAX to get this file. (https://knowledge.ni.com/KnowledgeArticleDetails?id=kA00Z000000P9mPSAS&l=en-US). NI MAX gets installed with an NI driver, for example, NI-VISA which can be downloaded from this site: https://www.ni.com/en-us/support/downloads/drivers/download.ni-visa.html#329456

As this looks like a compatibility issue, do you know if there is a version of this GUI that is compatible with Windows 10? Please let me know so that I can talk with the customer and tell him if there is a newer version.

    Thanks,

    Jorge Castro

  • Hi Jorge,

My PC is running the Windows 10 OS, and the TDC720x EVM GUI runs successfully. There is only one version of the TDC720x EVM GUI available, which should run on the Win7, Win8.x, and Win10 OSs.

I have generated the NI MAX report from my Win 10 PC per your linked instructions. I will send you a private message containing the zipped report.

  • Thanks, I accepted the request.

  • For all interested users,

This matter was resolved in a private message. A new GUI installer will be made available to eliminate the GUI start-up error currently prompting that the full version of LabVIEW is required to run the GUI.

An interim solution is to download and install the Microsoft .NET Framework 2.0 Service Pack 2 at https://www.microsoft.com/en-us/download/details.aspx?id=1639 . Most Windows 10 OS PCs do not include this older version of the .NET Framework, which is required by the existing TDC1000 and TDC72xx EVM GUIs.
