TDC1000: TDC1000

Part Number: TDC1000
Other Parts Discussed in Thread: TUSS4470, PGA460, TUSS4440

1,my idea is to use the TDC1000 to detect indoors target. TDC1000 would be connected to ultrasonic transducers. SO, u think this is feasible?
in the datasheet for the TDC1000, in the application and implementation part.it only gives fluid application, so Im not really sure if the TDC1000 is the best TDC ultrasound application for me.What are the other TDC for ultrasound we can have? which is not only for fluid applications.can I use TDC1000?

2,in the datasheet you suggest 2 microcontrollers to be used with the TDC1000. (MSP430/C2000) but I don't know which one will be better for my application.

  • user5940158,

The PGA460, TUSS4470, or TUSS4440 are our recommended devices to detect targets indoors through air. The TDC1000 is intended for applications that require both liquid level sensing and concentration measurements because it is a two channel ultrasonic IC. The Ultrasonic Sensing Basics (Rev. B) app report will give you a good overview of ultrasonic to better understand how your requirements match to the various device characteristics.

You can find a table of typical ultrasonic applications and TI's recommended device on the Ultrasonic FAQ here: https://e2e.ti.com/support/sensors/f/1023/t/748143

You should start with the PGA460 EVM, orderable PGA460-F5529-BNDL (consists of the BOOSTXL-PGA460 + MSP-EXP430F5529). The microcontroller you use will only require a UART or SPI interface, and not much memory. If you can provide more detail on your application requirements, I may be able to suggest a more specific transducer and microcontroller solution. Here is our listing of recommended transducers and transformers to give you an idea of the available frequencies and field-of-views.
