AWR1843BOOST: Recommend between IWR and AWR series for Anti-Collision System In an industrial factory.

Part Number: AWR1843BOOST

Hi all

We develop a Radar system for anti-collision of Crane.

We only want to detect and get the distance value of the crane (except other things).
Radar and Crane can be moving.
Which should I select ic between IWR and AWR series?
The Radar(mmWave IC) which can be used at an automobile has the wide-angle.
So it can be detected many things.
We only want to detect things which are selected by us.
It is similar to the cruise control system.
Is it possible to select a thing which we want to detect as the software?
We want to apply the mmWave IC the first time.
Is it possible to develop our application by mmWave IC of TI?

  • Hi,

For industrial applications we recommend the IWR family of devices.

The industrial mmwave team will provide you more answers to your questions

    Thank you

    Cesar

  • Dear Daniel:

Initially, I want get some more information about:

    1. By similar to cruise control, what functionality of cruise control do you need to have?

    2. When you state you want to only detect things that are selected by you, can you give an example of what you mean?

If you haven't already I would highly recommend checking out the following link for some general information:

  • Dear Connor

    Thank you for your e-mail.

Our application is Anti-collision system for Crane.

    1. We just want to get the distance between both Cranes.

When the cranes are moving, we need to get the distance each.
( Radar can be move, too)

The distance is used to out a signal of anti-collision.

2  In the Factory, there are many structures and machines.

To get more correct distance value, we need to avoid it.

If the Radar receives all signal, how can we select the signal which we ant to? ( we only want to detect the Crane.)

If you need more information, please send e-mail to me.

    Best Regards,

  • Dear Daniel:

The mmWave IC is a sensor which gives range, velocity, and angle of arrival measurements. Depending on the constraints of the scene the user must configure the device according, some tradeoffs might need to be made. Just with sensor data the device can not differentiate between two objects in a scene beyond that there are two objects. To be able to determine if a given object is a crane or not will require implementing a software based detection algorithm which suits your system constraints. I would suggest reading the following document to become familiar with different scene parameters, so as to assist in verifying the applicability of our device.
