IWR1642BOOST: The relationship of Demo visualizer "Range Resolution" and "Maximum Unambiguous Range"

Hi community member,
Why does "Maximum unambiguous range" increase as "Range resolution" finer?

My customer understand that "Maximum Radial Velocity" becomes finer by making "Range Resolution" finer.
But they don't understand the reason that "Maximum Unambiguous Range" expands by making "Range Resolution" finer.

When "Range Resolution" is set to 0.047m, the Maximum Unambiguous Range can be selected from 2.47 to 7.51m.
If "Range Resolution" is set to 0.039m, the maximum unambiguous range will be increased from 11.99 to 31.91m, and the minimum distance will also be extended.

Could I ask the reason?

Dear Crujiff:

After doing some digging I need a little bit of context to your question. Are you curious about why the visualizer is has this inverse behavior from a theoretical standpoint, or does this feature of the visualizer keeping you from accomplishing one of your goals?

Thank you for your reply.

My customer evaluate mmwave using IWR1642 and Demo visualizer.
In their evaluating, they would like to know that reason this inverse behavior.

I can't explain the reason very well to them.
Please let me know detailed.

Cruijff:

There are a lot of factors that dictate how the Demo Visualizer Responds to user input. The best step for you going forward if you want to understand this behavior is go through the source code for the Demo Visualizer specifically input.js. Here is a link:

Find the Demo Visualizer and import to GUI Composer. There you will be able to view the source code and gain insight. On another note I would also suggest using the Sensing Estimator Tool in conjunction with the Demo Visualizer to generate chirp configurations.
