IWR1843: UART or SPI for high volume of data

Hi,

We are using IWR6843 as a front sensor data processing unit and then pass data to higher level of processing on another computation node. This is for production not development (where DCA1000 fits)

The required data rate may exceed 921600bps and I did not find the highest speed of UART on IWR6843. Would you please suggest which interface we should use UART or SPI for 4Mbps or even higher speed?

Hi AG,

The requirement is 2~3Mbps at least for our first product. However, we've planned to design another product which works better with more data. So it will be really appreciated to know the maximum data rate of IWR6843 SPI and UART from the beginning.

Tom,

You could refer the the 3D people counting demo in the TI resource explorer you could use 2x921600 = 1843200 baud rate on the UART port. I guess you could go close to ~3Mbps.

If you need faster data rates then may have to use SPI interface. SPI (MIBSPI ) interface is at physical interface level should be able to operate upto 40Mbps. If there are additional drivers and layers (At the application level) then there could impact on the speed and hence throughput of data transfer also would come down, but operating at 2-3Mbps shouldn't be much of a problem.
