WEBENCH® Tools/LDC1614: Is the LDC1614 firmware exactly the same as the FDC2214?

Part Number: LDC1614
Other Parts Discussed in Thread: FDC2214

Tool/software: WEBENCH® Design Tools

Hello.

The operation principle of LDC1614 and FDC2214 is the same.

First, we completed the FDC2214's firmware, and there are no problems.

The noise increases when the LDC1614 is operated with the FDC2214's firmware.

Can I use the same firmware for FDC2214 and LDC1614?

Is there anything to consider?

  • The LDC1614 and the FDC2214 are different devices with different characteristics.

The firmware needs to change as per the device you are of interest in the application.

The datasheet of LDC1614 and the FDC2214 does provide the necessary information to make decisions on the firmware. I do understand we like to reuse as much firmware as we can but the register map information and application should give you guidance to make the decision.

  • Hello Kim,

You can use the same firmware for the LDC1614 and the FDC2214. The firmware we include with the Sensing Solutions GUI works for both devices, as well as the LDC131x. You can find that firmware at this file path:

    C:\ti\Sensing Solutions EVM GUI-1.10.0\EVM Firmware\Older Revs\FDC2x14_LDC13xxRevB_LDC16xxRevB_EVM_Firmware_source

As Arjun mentioned, the devices have different register maps and you will need to make sure that the register settings are customized for the specific device you are using. If you are seeing noise floor differences it may be that the drive current registers are set incorrectly for the LDC1614. You should also double-check that the external oscillator is selected in the CONFIG register. Using the internal oscillator will increase the noise floor.

    Best Regards,
