TDC1000-C2000EVM: Readings for LPG in steel container

Part Number: TDC1000-C2000EVM

Hi,

We just receive TDC1000-C2000EVM package in hands. To install UART driver and GUI software in Windows 10 first.

Our measurement target is LPG (Gas Cylinders with different sizes and thickness). However, we have a similar issue like the message loop below.

http://e2e.ti.com/support/sensors/f/1023/t/826838?TDC1000-C2000EVM-Readings-for-LPG-in-steel-container

We try to work our best but still have no idea how TI support team resolve this issue with your community member - .

Thanks,

Star

  • Hi Star,

Using an oscilloscope, can you probe the COMP_IN pin (buffered) to show the echo activity for this time of flight measurement? I recommend that you use the START pin as a trigger, and ensure your time scale allows for the time-of-flight result capture of the tank when it is full.

We must first review the front end output to determine what the exact issue may be. Try capturing the COMP_IN result at maximum PGA gain (21dB), and set the number of burst pulses to 10.

As the other TI engineer (Bharat) noted in your linked post, we still do not have an LPG setup of our own to test with, so we will not be able to replicate your setup or recreate the bugs at this time.

  • Hi Akeem,

Sorry for my late reply to continue to digging the issue more clearly. After I get a chance to be in the lab and work with engineering team for a while, I collect more information in order to find the root cause in our setup environment.

We use one transducer which differs from your user guide. It's datasheet here. https://www.mouser.com/datasheet/2/334/UB161M7-953231.pdf

Another transducer we use is from a final product made by M vendor. We assume its transducer is probably 500Hz because TOF is available when we apply divide by 16 in TX_FREQ_DIV field.

In addition to LPG, we could not find TOF(us) change obviously when attaching it to a full gas cylinder or another one almost empty.

So we go back detect water level with PP material container. However, we also do not see accurate TOF based on different water levels.

Here is our GUI CFG and simple setup steps as well.

We appreciate your experience to take a look quickly to see if any key important steps we might miss and impact our test results.

    Thanks,
    Star

  • Hi Star,

The time of flight error is likely due to the mechanics of your setup:

    • loose/faulty mounting of the transducer to the wall of the cylinder.
    • cylindrical container shape may also be problematic because of the angle of reflection created by the curved wall.
