AWR1642: Detect Rifle, Knife or Metal in the Forest

Hi Team,

A customer wanted to design a radar that can detect rifle, knife or any other metalic object in the forest. Is it possible? If yes, do we have an application note and other resources for this applications? What distance can mmwave sensor detect metallic objects?

Hi Danilo,

The detection of metal is possible with the mmwave devices . There are lot of resource and lab experiments in the TI Resource Explorer of the mmWave sensors to help you with the features of the device.

Thank you for sharing the link to the resource explorer. Can you share the link to the applications for metal detection? Can mmWave distinguished a rifle, a knife or a piece of wood scattered among the trees in the forest?

Hi,

We don't think this application is possible with mmWave radar.

In the forest there will be too much clutter (trees, vegetation...)
