My customer is evaluting BOOSTXL-PGA460, they want to know if there is any risk to put a 12VDC to J5, what are the issues they need to be aware of?

Yes, it is possible to supply a voltage of 6-28V at J5 on the BOOSTXL-PGA460.
Be sure no shunt is connected at the Power Mode Jumper Block (J7) as shown in Table 1 of the User's Guide in Power Mode "Standard":
"The MSP-EXP430F5529LP is powered by USB, and the BOOSTXLPGA460 is powered by an external source at J5 or J6. TI recommends full evaluation and development of the PGA460-Q1 be performed in the standard power mode for best results."
