TDC7201-ZAX-EVM: What is the maximum measurement time for combined mode?

Part Number: TDC7201-ZAX-EVM

The data sheet states the following for the TDV7201

Section 1 Features

Measurement Range:
– Individual Mode 1: 12 ns to 2000 ns
– Individual Mode 2: 250 ns to 8 ms
– Combined Operation: 0.25 ns to 8 ms

and in Section 8.1 Application information

... wide measurement range of 0.25 ns to 8 ms

I am most interested in the combined operation so that I can measure targets between near zero and 50 uS with a LIDAR system.  I can see the application note for using the combined operation to get a minimum measurement, but there is no mention of how to achieve a maximum measurement in this mode.  Combination mode seems to bridge the measurement range of mode 1 that is < 2uS and mode 2 that is > 250 nS, in a single measurement.  Can you please clarify?

Regards

  • Hi Lane,

The method for capturing long range measurements in combined operation is similar, except the measurement mode must be changed to mode 2 (MEAS_MODE=1). This effectively separates the combined operation to make two separate measurements for the range of 0.25ns to 2us (in mode 1) and another for the range of 0.25us to 8ms (in mode 2).
