DCA1000EVM: DCA1000EVM capture data does not start

* I have read and applied all user guides and the debug handbook of the DCA1000EVM and AWR1443BOOST devices, as well as the MMWAVE-STUDIO software *

I want to capture data from the DCA1000EVM that is connected with the AWR1443BOOST using the MMWAVE-STUDIO, Everything goes smoothly, up until when I reach the button "Trigger Frame" at the SensorConfig tab.

I have followed through all the previous steps (tabs Connection, StaticConfig, DataConfig) but I do not get any adc_data.bin at the output. Neither does the PostProc button seems to respond.

What is most strange is that there is a file generated with the name ". There is an entry there like these:

"Capture start time - Sat May 16 21:56:39 2020

Capture end time - Sat May 16 21:56:39 2020

Duration(sec) - 0"

which means that the capture of data did start but for some reason was terminated immediately after 0 sec.

What might I do wrong?

    It seems like the DCA1000 was not able to capture the data, and hence there is no bin file generated, because of which post processing also didn't work. Did you "set up the DCA1000" and clicked the "DCA1000 ARM" button before triggering for frames?

    Also, could you send us the output log of mmwave studio so that we can understand the problem better and help you solve this issue at the earliest.

    thank you for your kind reply. Yes, of course, I clicked the "Set up DCA1000" button and did the setup, and also I clicked the "DCA1000 ARM" button before clicking on the "Trigger Frame" button. In particular, I clicked the "DCA1000 ARM" button and then waited for a few seconds before clicking the "Trigger Frame" button, as instructed by the User Guide.

    I have not found the way to attach files in my posts, so please kindly download the log file(s) and a few photos of the hardware below:

    In the "adc_data_Raw_LogFile.xls" file, it says that the capture time lasted 0 seconds. It seems that it did not have any duration so I guess this is why it did not produce any bin file output. But still do not know how to fix it...

    I saw the images of your setup, and it looks good as of now, but I was not able to download the log file.

    Below are the instructions to capture the mmwave studio log file, and then you can save it as a text file and send it over as an attachment. Could you please follow them and send the log file like this?

    Step 1: right click on the mmwave studio output log as shown below, and click "show log file"button

    Step 2: The log file would appear as a text file, save the file.

    Step 3: Click on the attachment button as shown below to insert the file.

    thank you again for your reply - I appreciate your help.

    There are multiple log files at the PostProc folder of the MMWAVE-STUDIO. There are even two figures (a fig and a png file).

    But for now, please find attached the log file that I generated by following your instructions. Please let me know if you would also like me to upload all the aforementioned log files as well.

  • Hi Stelios,

    As I can see from your studio log, the highlighted configurations failed when you issued the APIs. 

    1. Regular ADC mode is not supported for the device variant you are using, you have to use low power mode in this case. 

    2. You profile and chirp configuration failed, because of which there were no chirps issued for capture. Hence, your issue is not with DCA1000, but with the configuration. Once you are able to configure the chirps properly (status : PASSED), you would be able to capture the data. I request you to cross check your configuration once.

    Just make sure to see the status of the API whenever you issue one in mmwave studio.
