TDC7200: Any alternatives with Higher Resolution?

Part Number: TDC7200
Other Parts Discussed in Thread: THS788, TDC1000

I've been working with the TDC7200 for a while now and the 55 ps resolution is not going to cut it for my application. Statistical analysis and averaging have allowed me to achieve better resolution, but it still isn't enough.  The only other TMU I have found is the THS788 which has an LSB resolution of 13 ps. The THS788 is NRND and is much more complicated than the TDC7200. Is there anything that falls between the TDC7200 and THS788 in terms of measurement resolution and complexity?

Ideally, I'm looking for something identical to the TDC7200, with the 13 ps LSB resolution of the THS788.

Thanks

  • Max,

My Position Sensors team supporting the TDC7200 currently has no plans to create a future time-to-digital device because this device was originally created to be paired with the TDC1000. At this time, 55ps resolution is the best resolution that can be achieved by the TDC7200, which tends to be sufficient for most ultrasonic and LIDAR sensing applications.

I recommend you create a generic post directed at the Real-Time Clocks (RTCs) & Timers team to help you find a potential alternative. Use the THS788 as your post topic, and they may be able to recommend a simpler alternative.
