IWR6843ISK-ODS: noise point problem

Part Number: IWR6843ISK-ODS

The demo we are running is "68xx_3D_people_counting".

When people pass through the area marked by the red frame, there will be many noise points. The closer to the wall, the more noise points.Could you please tell us why and how we can solve this problem.

  • Hi,

There is a phenomenon known as multi-path reflection that occurs in indoor environments. When the person walks near the wall, the RF signal reflects off of them and back to the sensor, creating the points you want to see. It also reflects off of them, hits the wall, and reflects back to the sensor, creating ghost point at a slightly different position. Normally, when a person is in the middle of the room, reflections like this will have very low strength, and won't be detected. However, when the person is close to the wall, these reflections become strong enough to be detected.

These reflections will always appear behind a wall or floor, where the person can't be, so it is easy to filter these points by filtering any points that fall outside the boundaries of the room.

    Regards,

    Justin
