TIDEP-01012: Cascading radar: Using T-junction power divider for LO output

Hello,

My customer is planning to create custom cascading radar board based on the reference design TIDEP-01012.

In MMWCAS-RF-EVM, 2 Wilkinson power dividers are used to distribute LO output to master/slave devices.

The customer is planning to use T-junction power divider instead of Wilkinson power divider.

If I understand correctly, it is not recommended.

Could you please explain what are the risks when using T-junction power divider?

Hello Shibata,

Wilkinson divider is also a type of T-junction power divider.

I will check with customer what exactly they are planning to change from the original Wilkinson power divider.

Hi Vivek,

Please see attached picture. The customer is planning to use the left one.

No resister is mounted between divided 2 ports.

Are there any concern like degradation in isolation between the 2 ports?

Hello Shibata,

In the left configuration there would be large impedance mismatch because of direct 50ohms - 35ohms transition.
