MMWCAS-RF-EVM: TXBF output result by processor sdk is not expected

Part Number: MMWCAS-RF-EVM
Other Parts Discussed in Thread: AWR2243, , MMWCAS-DSP-EVM

Hi,

I am using AWR2243 MMWCAS-RF-EVM/MMWCAS-DSP-EVM with processor sdk for radar v3.8. I put one corner reflector in boresight of the cascaded EVM and ran the default TXBF demo and got below result. I saw 3 highlight red points below, instead of one. Why? Would you pls kindly advise?

I don't see calibration for TXBF demo in sdk. Does this cause the problem?

  • Hi Chris,

Phase-shifter calibration could be a cause of that kind of effect. Would it be possible for you to replicate this dataset outside of the Processors SDK example with mmWave Studio? Sometimes that can also be a useful comparison to understand differences between setups and effects.

    Thank you,

    -Randy

  • Randy,

I tried to run TXBF demo in mmWave studio. The result is better than the TXBF demo in sdk. But still have some problems and need your help.

There are files missed in C:\ti\mmwave_studio_03_00_00_07\mmWaveStudio\MatlabExamples for calibration and TXBF demo, so my test is based on mmwave 2.1.0.0 and USRR configuration.

    1. I follow the guide of calibration in mmwave_studio_cascade_user_guide.pdf and I can get the calibration data without error. But I put a corner reflector (19cm edge) at about 5m away, but the output of calibration code is " Target is estimated at range 5.7566". I think the range gap is too big. Why and what I may miss during calibration? BTW, I did calibration in a normal lab, not a dark room.

    2. When I put the corner reflector at boresight, the TXBF demo output seems ok, but the range (>6m) is about 1m more than real value (5m). Is this due to the calibration?

    3. I moved the corner reflector to a little bit right. I found the peak is less obviously. Similar range gap.

    4. I moved the corner reflector to a little bit left. I found I can see the peak in both left and right side with 6m range. This is not expected. What may I miss?

  • Randy,

    Any comment?

  • Hi Chris,

As we discussed over e-mail, please close this ticket for now. The TX phase shifter items items you discussed above will be part of a new mmWave Studio example script release. Please re-open if you need further assistance.

    Thank you,

    -Randy
