Hi Expetrs,

I have checked in sensor design guide that we have to use spiral shape coil to get the maximum sensing. But in that document there were two more shape as Trapezoidal and Square. Why this is needed and why spiral shape is considered as best for inductive sensing? Please answer this as we are about to design our own custom sensor with the help of LDC excel tool.

    Manish,

    Thank you for your question.  A spiral shape is the most energy efficient sensor shape.  However, depending on the application it may be necessary to maximize coil area to achieve maximum sensitivity.  A square or trapezoidal coil would be useful in this case.
