DCA 1000 EVM : unable to read FPGA version (using DCA with awr1843)

Other Parts Discussed in Thread: DCA1000EVM

hi

I am using DCA 1000 and awr 1843 to capture the raw data. But in setup DCA 1000 tab I am not able to able to find the FPGA version.

I have tried the following options  by using the other similar threads

1. Disable the firewall.

2. Check the IP is correct.

Please give the solution thank you

  • I tried the DataCaptureDemo_xWR.lua

which shows the same error which indicates the problem with FPGA connection.

  • Hello Neeraj,

Did you check our FAQ page? This is a common issue and you might find answers there. Please look for "DCA1000 EVm related queries" by clicking on the link at the end of this reply.

If you're still not able to solve your issue, kindly let us the know the version of mmwave studio you are using and if possible, do send the output log of studio. That would help us debug this better.

    Regards,

    Ishita

  • I have tried everything including re flashing the FPGA given in User's Guide DCA1000EVM Data Capture Card. step 9.

    I am using mmwave_studio_02_01_01_00

Please solve the problem I am stuck here from weeks.

  • There is similar thread https://e2e.ti.com/support/sensors/f/1023/t/885381?DCA1000EVM-DCA1000EVM-Unable-to-read-FPGA-Version-error-5-And-unable-to-program-DCA-

in which a similar problem happened with the DCA1000+awr 1862, I am using DCA1000+ awr 1843.  I have tried every solution available on the e2e forum related to this issue and given in the above thread.

even this thread is not completed because what was the solution for this problem is not clear? they said they need to connect to the developer but what the solution developer has provided is not updated.

So please give me the suggestion after keeping all these things in mind I have already given a lot of time to explore before posting the question.

    Thanks

  • Hello Neeraj,

Has this DCA1000 ever worked before?

Could you also comment on the Power adapter used for the DCA1000? what is the current rating used?

    Regards,

    Ishita

  • This is the first time  I am using it.

    adopter rating is 5V/2A

In the above thread, TI member suggested for the 5V/3A  power adopter, but after using the 5v/3A power supply, the problem persists; that's what the questioner's reply was, so I wonder if the same problem is with my device then what is the point to changing the adopter.

Can you tell me what the solution provided by the developer for the above link thread was?

  • Hello Neeraj,

Could you provide some clarifications from your part:

    1) We recommend using 5V, >2A power supply. Also do you have the power switch set to "DC_jack" position ?

    2) Do you have the appropriate LEDs lit on the DCA1000 , 5V LED and FPGA done LED ? Can you share the picture of the DCA1000 LEDs status?

    3) Do you have the SW2 switch position set to SW config position? Can you share a picture of the  SW2 switch positions?

    4) When you connect the ethernet cable between the DCA1000 and PC do you see the LEDs on the ethernet connector glowing? Have you tried changing the ethernet cable and trying with another cable?

I guess you must have tried many of the these from the other e2e posts, but I would still need a confirmation to help you solve this issue.

    Regards,

    Ishita

  • Thanks

the answers to your question are

    1) currently I have 5v/2A power adopter. I am using the plugin the power through the awr 1843 board so power switch position is radar 5v_in instead of DC jack 5 volts in when I tried to plugin power adopter in DCA 1000 instead of awr 1843 and put the power switch position at DC_jack then in device manager the usb cable connected through 1843  is not shown connected only 4- port connection shows, while in the first case 6 port show the connected.

  • 2) The image is attached for the led  DCA 5 v led is lit but I am not sure FPGA done LED where is the led?

  • 3) the switch 2 position is shown in the below figure  I have tried with other combinations too as you may see the question 2 answer there is different sw2 combination is shown. But for now, I am using the combination shown below figure

    4) The led light is glowing at the ethernet port. I have tried another ethernet cable too.

  • Hi Neeraj,

Can you increase the packet delay to 75us and try again?

    Regards,

    Ishita

  • By increasing the packet delay to 75 us the problem is the same noting changes.

  • Hello Neeraj,

Can you write the following piece of code (one by one line) in lua shell and send the return value you get?

    //

    res = ar1.CaptureCardConfig_PacketDelay(75)

    print(res)

    //

    Regards,

    Ishita

  • >Available user commands:

    (2) cls - Clears the screen.
    (3) help - Shows all available commands in Lua Shell.
    >res = ar1.CaptureCardConfig_PacketDelay(75)
    res=-1
    >print(res)
    -1

  • Hi,

Along with the above code, I also tried to connect using a Gigabit Ethernet adapter, as my laptop only has a Fast Ethernet adapter. This time, 2 lights blinked on both the adapter port and the DCA Ethernet port, but the end result was still the same. The FPGA version isn't being reported.

The 2 lights are green and orange, with the orange light blinking continuously on the adapter side, while it was constant on the DCA side. May I know what these lights mean and why only one side is blinking?

    Regards,

    Neeraj

  • Hello Neeraj,

Sorry for the delay in response.

From your mmwave studio log, it can be seen there is no "FPGA configuration command: success". Can you re-flash and try again?

Also, as a debug step, you can try one more thing, can you try to connect to DCA1000 using CLI and not mmwave studio. You can refer to section 3.1.4 of the software user guide at the following directory:

    ...\mmwave_studio_02_01_01_00\mmWaveStudio\ReferenceCode\DCA1000\Docs

If it doesn't work there as well, this is a setup issue or pc issue. You can try the DCA on some other machine as well. Just ensure that the FPGA Firmware is flashed properly.

    Regards,

    Ishita

  • Hi Ishita,

it did not resolve my issue, what you have suggested. thanks for your help.

But got resolved my issue, by using a separate ethernet connector instead of the port in my laptop, as I found in one of the thread someone tried this method so also tried the same.

So my suggestion for those finding the same problem is first to check whether your ethernet port is gigabit ethernet port or not if it is not then better to use a separate gigabit ethernet connector this may resolve your issue. as in my case, it has.

    Thanks

  • Hello Neeraj,

Thanks for the suggestion. We're glad it worked out for you.

    Ishita
