Hi,

I used AWRBOOST and the demo Traffic Monitoring. I would illustrate the performance of the detector by ploting detected power in funtion of the range.

I'm not very familiar with CCS. Have you some idea ?

Hi Florian,

The device outputs a point cloud and tracker information over UART in real time. You should be able to parse this using a scripting language of choice - our Matlab visualizer already has a parser for this data.

The point cloud has SNR information for each point, SNR is signal to noise ration, which is essentially a power value. Each point also has range so you can parse the point cloud, and for each point you have a range and SNR value to fill your plot.

Ok,

I have try this and i think that by using the file fhist ( the .mat file generate after each demo ) i can have the distance with fhist.pointCloud(1,:) and the SNR with fhist.pointCloud(4,:) but when i look the value they are very small. In exemple :

fHist.pointCloud(1000)(1,:)
ans =

-3.193D-13 0.

How can I have a value in meters for the distance ?

Hi FE,

Try grabbing values from a frame with a known object at a known range - if there is nothing in the scene you may just be receiving close range noise.

Ok, I will try that.

Otherwise, I think a good way to increase the received power could be to use the antenna by pair of two ( for the moment they are used separately to calculate the angle ). If we just need two antennae to calculate the angle maybe the good way could be to use this antenna by pair ? Did you think it's something realizable or not?

Hi Florian,

The IWR1642 doesn't have Tx Phase Shifters, so you can't run multiple transmits at once effectively. However, the IWR6843 (which you would probably need to use for a product due to regulation) is a newer device with Tx Phase Shifter. We use Tx Beamforming (combining all 3 Tx at once) on this device for long range people detection past 100 m. Sorry I was not clear. I don't talk about use the Tx antenna by pair, I talk about using the Rx antenna by pair of two.

You cannot use two Rx antennas as a pair to increase gain.
